Review:

Hello, it’s Iamme!  So let’s start:

Why do restaurants that consider themselves fusionistic find it necessary to charge more for practically everything?  At Cat’s, the sushi prices were about $4~5 more than other places.   So The LovingSpoonful.net finally arrived at Cat Sushi and Fusion Restaurant and we realized we should have left before ordering. Since I had my new camera, I figured what the hell, why not try a new place, it may be spectacular! Ha! I was wrong in a different way.

The appetizer sushi:
Philadelphia Roll:

So I ordered the Philadelphia roll, a basic that you can find in most sushi places in Orange County. I use this as my standard for comparing sushi. Ahem, for $10, I expected some much more than what I found on my plate. I wanted to see a lot more fish in my philly roll, but my desire was unfulfilled. There was a much more cream cheese than fish.

Eel Nigiri Sushi:

The eel nigiri sushi had nothing special to it. I have had better, but this was okay. The eel was bland and the rice was just weird. I think a little too much vinegar to rice ratio in the sushi.

Dynomite Roll:

Ever had raw scallops? Well, we come very close to raw scallops at Cat’s!

Main Dish:
Iamme’s seafood hot pot:

Hmmm, I wonder what’s hidden on the inside?!

Cat_AsianFusionCuisine_IMG_0098

Awwww…. it’s sea food fried rice! Lots of different types of seafood scrapes hidden by the baby corn and mushrooms.  If you look closely, there’s corn, mushrooms, carrots, some shrimp, onions, calamari, slices of pork! egg, and pieces of white fish on a bed of white rice that’s cooking due to the heat of pot. Essentially, it’s seafood fried rice.  So you have all that mixed in with maybe a little soy sauce.  I added a lot of pepper to make it taste like something.  This is type of dish is probably great for Cat’s, since all the work is simply placing the jumbled mess on some rice, wait a little bit, and then serve.  Bam!  $15!  Easy money! No work!  Oh yeah, my recommendation is to not order this dish.

Mightypen’s main dish never made it out of the kitchen. The high school looking waiter mistook her beef on a bed of greens order for beef stew.  Mightypen by this time, not impressed with the sushi nor the clay pot, just wanted to leave.

All in all, I’ll probably go to another sushi place for better sushi and better sushi prices.  I found the prices for sushi expensive for the quality you get.  For the Vietnamese food, the prices are adequate, taste wise, not too great.  The wait staff are conscientious but lack skills.  Gah! I wanted to tell them how to do their jobs!  I found Cat Sushi and Fusion Restaurant spectacularly disappointing.

PS. If you do have staff, please inform them what type drink is called a tisane (herbal tea from anything other than tea leaves :-)   wiki is your friend!), especially if you offer it in the menu.   And if it’s in the menu, then I expect you to serve it. If not, then update your menus!   There’s was this big blurb (1/3 of the page) about combo items in the back of the menu but it’s no longer offered.

PSS. I forgot Mightypen’s drink:
Flavored Soda

I also think someone was here before our visit?  What gave me the clue?  Could it be the bread crumbs on the tablecloth?

    LOL @ the painted silverwares.

the chopsticks are not painted. they are stainless steel. i asked the owner whom i had the chance to meet. they are light because they are hollow.

Vicki and I were not impressed either when we went. Food was ok. Fried tofu was the highlight of the night. Seating us in the furthest corner away from everyone else didnt help and the small gnats/fruit flies flying around the plant decor was not appetizing, especially when some fell in the soup we had.

    I agree with your review.

my fiancee and i had a completely opposite experience upon our visit to CAT. The servers and manager were very attentive to us and our needs and the food was delicious, especially the dessert.

in my opinion, your reviews seem very negative not only in regard to CAT but also to many other good restaurants as well. Perhaps if you don’t like a restaurant or have not tried an extensive amount of items from their menu, especially in Cat’s case because their menu has so many items, you should not post such a harsh and nasty review. You guys shouldn’t give reviews that prevent people from having their own experiences and opinions. also if you are going to write a review, get the name of the dishes right.

I’m sorry, but which dish name did we get wrong? We ordered two entrees and some sushi. They got one dish wrong. In my opinion, there’s much better sushi to be had in Orange County. We may come back some day, but there are too many other restaurants which also deserve a chance to shine. So if you fail as miserably as CAT did during the first impression, don’t expect another visit.

Perhaaaaps we shouldn’t write our reviews, but perhaps you should continue to frequent the places you enjoy regardless of what we say – just like every other free-willed reader does. :)

It’s great that you enjoyed your experience at CAT. Happy eating, and congratulations on your engagement.
