Review:
Bye Bye Sugar is a bakery nestled in a quiet strip mall, between a snowboard shop that blasts the Red Hot Chili Peppers and a tattoo parlor with shaded windows. It is owned by a sweet couple, and is our go-to place whenever we are in the Laguna Hills/Aliso Viejo area.

As the name implies, this is a strictly sugar-free bakery. They also sell soft-serve, smoothies, and assorted chocolates – all made without sugar. I know that there are a lot of senior citizens in Aliso and Laguna, and many of them seem to head to Bye Bye Sugar for their Pina Colada smoothie fix. I can see why!

Exterior:

Chocolate Layer Cake:

The chocolate layer cake here is pretty good. The cake is very moist. The cream is not great – tastes like it comes out of a can, but it isn’t bad. I order it every now and then when a craving hits.

Chocolate Eclairs and Cream Puff:

Iamme really likes the chocolate eclairs here, and makes a point to stop by at least once every few weeks to purchase a couple. I’ve noticed that sometimes they top the eclairs with chocolate donut frosting as oppose to melted chocolate. Also, they can be a little stingy with the pastry cream. What’s there, however, is always luscious and deliciously cold. We would bypass the cream puffs, as they are dry and perhaps filled with spray-can whipped topping.

Bye Bye Sugar doesn’t always use fresh ingredients, but it is a good, reliable alternative for diabetics and others with dietary restrictions.
